On Saturday, November 12th, Longleaf Church and Training For Warriors – Julington Creek will be hosting a Ruck event to benefit our county’s “in-transition” and homeless students at the St. Johns County A.S.S.I.S.T Program.

The Ruck will begin at 9:00 am with check-in from 8:00-9:00 am at the Rivertown Amenity Center – Riverhouse (Kendall Crossing Dr, St. Johns, FL 32259). Registrations through October 29th will be $40 and $20 for children 12 and under. After that, it will increase to $50 until Ruck day. Participants will receive a dry-fit t-shirt and snacks for registration. To guarantee your shirt size and availability, you must register by October 29th.

ALL proceeds will go directly to the ASSIST Program thanks to Longleaf Church and TFW. ASSIST (Aid and Support for Students in Sudden Transition) of St. Johns County School District is a program set up through the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and ensures that each homeless child and youth has equal access to the same free, appropriate public education, including public preschool education, as other children and youth.

This event will consist of warm-up exercises led by Training For Warriors trainers, a 3-mile hike with Ruck Sack (details below), points along the hike where we will take part in challenging and trainer-led exercises, and fitness challenges at the finish. There will also be a few different food offerings as well as live music.

Each participant will need to bring their own “Ruck Sack”. This can be a backpack or drawstring bag filled with a weight of your choosing. Suggestion would be that if you are just starting out with rucking or it’s been awhile since you’ve done much physical activity, start with a weight that’s about 10% of your bodyweight. You will be wearing your Ruck Sack for the duration of the event, hike, and exercises, so you can make the event as easy or as challenging as you would like based upon how heavy you make your Ruck Sack.

We are also inviting participants (if they wish) to bring $25 dollar Walmart gift cards in lieu of canned good donations so that ASSIST can offer these to students who need food, clothing, hygiene, etc.

Thank you to all participants and businesses for taking an interest in helping our students! It helps more than you will ever know! If you can’t participate, please share this event. See you on November 13th!
